IMPORTANT NEWS FROM PEASEMORE VILLAGE CRICKET CLUB

Cricket has been played on the village green in Peasemore every summer for over 60 years. But now there is a real risk that 2017 will have been the club’s last active year. In recent years, but particularly this year it’s been hard, often impossible to put a team together. Despite being an inclusive club in terms of age, sex and ability we simply can’t secure 11 participants often enough to fulfil fixtures.

The PVCC Committee wish to ensure the village is aware of the situation and to specifically seek support in keeping the club in existence. In November we’ll meet to determine the clubs immediate future so having a picture of what support exists in the village before then would be helpful.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

PVCC’s biggest problem is very simple – we arrange around six home and six away Sunday fixtures each season, but we don’t have sufficient people who are ready and willing to play either on a regular or occasional basis.  That means we have to cancel matches which is bad for the reputation of the club and village. Getting a match on isn’t just about players though, we need to arrange fixtures, collect membership and match fees, purchase kit, organise scorers and umpires, prepare and maintain the cricket pitch, write newspaper match reports… and importantly organise and serve cricket teas, for which Peasemore has become famous.  All of this requires people who will offer a some regular help, either on the field or off - that is what we don’t have and that is what we are appealing for.

If you would like to see cricket continue to be played in Peasemore then please consider how you might personally get involved either as a player, a helper, or both and contact one of the PVCC Committee before the end of October.

We hope you agree that village cricket can still be a central part of the Peasemore community and look forward to receiving your support
