Chairpersons report by Deborah Brady

I am delighted to provide this report for last 14 months and for my second year of tenure as chairperson for the Peasemore committee. Throughout this period I have been supported by Sarah Cornish as secretary and Peter Jonas as treasurer and of course Dave Mullender as lead organiser of Peasefest and Louise Weston as lead organiser of the Artisan market.

We have also of course benefitted from the support of the broader committee members over the last 14 months, those being Gill Palmer, Sam Meredith, Maxeen Boniface, June Hateley, Paloma Beattie, Sam Tillotson, Bernie Davis and Claire Bushell. I am also pleased to report that Cren Cotton has joined us once again.  We also have a significant number of helpers who offer their support for specific events, in particular last summer with Peasefest

I can report that we have hosted a number of well attended events and have raised additional money towards the children’s play equipment and we are hopeful with this Weekend’s curry evening and our matched funding grants that we will have raised enough money to fund the total project.

So on to the activities undertaken:

On the 24th Feb, our curry club chef’s cooked for us another great supper of delicious Indian food. As well as it being a great evening it was a successful fundraiser.

One month later on the 24th March we hosted a race evening compered by Dave Mullender with Sarah Cornish the key organiser, again a well-attended fun evening a successful fundraiser.

The big event of the year was most certainly Peasefest and whilst this event was supported by the committee and others, we can take no credit for the vision and the leadership for this event. Dave Mullender was an absolute inspiration to all of us to make this happen, which it did, from Lunchtime on the Saturday to late afternoon on the Sunday, incorporating so many different aspects, there really was something for everyone. I think you will all agree this event really raised the bar in terms of what we are able to deliver – it is something we should all feel very proud of and was our biggest single fundraiser of the year.

On the 2nd November Phil and Lauren from the Fox, kindly agreed for us to take over the pub for one night to commemorate 100 years since the end of world war 1. Sam Tillotson was a real inspiration for this event and with the committee team behind her we delivered a fun and profitable evening.

Louise Weston, again supported by the committee organised the second Artisan market for us on the 16th November, again well attended, pulling people from outside of the village and a significant fund raiser.

We also hosted our traditional Easter egg hunt, Halloween party and Friends of Peasemore Christmas dinner as well as doing the village hall flowers and Christmas decorations.

The planning for this year’s events has been based on the survey results that we recently received – so thank you for all who participated in this.

Dates for your diary are:

  • Curry evening 30th March
  • Village quiz and supper night – where we take over the pub again 5th May
  • Village Fete 9th June
  • Race night to be planned in the Autumn.

Fundraising activities will be focused on the upkeep of the village hall given it is in need of some TLC, unless we have requests for other ideas to be considered.

One final note, I would like to thank Pete Jonas (who is not here this evening) for his contributions to the committee over the last few years. Initially as a committee member, then chairman and more latterly as treasurer. Pete has resigned from the committee but will continue to manage the children’s play equipment installation until its completion.
