FROM Highways England:

Maintenance work to replace the beams and waterproofing material to the bridges which carry the M4 over the B4009 Hampstead Norreys Road near Hermitage, Brocks Lane near Frilsham and Burnt Hill Road has now started.

As previously advised, during work to demolish and install the bridge deck beams, specialist working methods and equipment will be required which will include larger cranes that will sit across all lanes of the motorway.

To allow this work to take place we will be fully closing the M4 east and westbound carriageways between junctions 12 and 13 over the following entire weekend periods (9pm Friday through to 5am Monday):

  • Friday 24 to Monday 27 November 2017
  • Friday 8 to Monday 11 December 2017
  • Friday 15 to Monday 18 December 2017
  • Friday 12 to Monday 15 January 2018
  • Friday 19 to Monday 22 January 2018 (contingency)

Junctions 12 to 13: Hermitage – Bridge Refurbishment

Work to replace the beams and waterproofing material to the bridges which carry the M4 over the B4009 Hampstead Norreys Road near Hermitage, Brocks Lane near Frilsham and Burnt Hill Road.

Overnight closures with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction are in place during the scheme for your safety and that of our workforce.

To replace the beams we will need to close the M4 between junctions 12 and 13 over a number of full weekends.

View diversions

The three local authority roads will remain open for the majority of the scheme, closing only during the erection/dismantling of the scaffolding equipment and during all weekend closures of the M4.

-----

Preliminary works along the M4, between junctions 12 and 13, is progressing well and in October the narrow lane traffic management is scheduled to be installed.

To assist with onsite activities and the installation of the traffic management, the following full overnight closures of the M4 have been programmed:

  • Monday 9th, Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th October – full EASTBOUND closures from junction 13 to 12
  • Friday 13th, Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th October – full WESTBOUND closures from junction 12 to 13

Significant delays are expected during these weekend closure periods, and it is advisable that you plan ahead of your journey to allow for extra time or avoid this route where possible.

During all closures a clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4 (through Newbury, Thatcham and Woolhampton).

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM PEASEMORE VILLAGE CRICKET CLUB

Cricket has been played on the village green in Peasemore every summer for over 60 years. But now there is a real risk that 2017 will have been the club’s last active year. In recent years, but particularly this year it’s been hard, often impossible to put a team together. Despite being an inclusive club in terms of age, sex and ability we simply can’t secure 11 participants often enough to fulfil fixtures.

The PVCC Committee wish to ensure the village is aware of the situation and to specifically seek support in keeping the club in existence. In November we’ll meet to determine the clubs immediate future so having a picture of what support exists in the village before then would be helpful.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

PVCC’s biggest problem is very simple – we arrange around six home and six away Sunday fixtures each season, but we don’t have sufficient people who are ready and willing to play either on a regular or occasional basis.  That means we have to cancel matches which is bad for the reputation of the club and village. Getting a match on isn’t just about players though, we need to arrange fixtures, collect membership and match fees, purchase kit, organise scorers and umpires, prepare and maintain the cricket pitch, write newspaper match reports… and importantly organise and serve cricket teas, for which Peasemore has become famous.  All of this requires people who will offer a some regular help, either on the field or off - that is what we don’t have and that is what we are appealing for.

If you would like to see cricket continue to be played in Peasemore then please consider how you might personally get involved either as a player, a helper, or both and contact one of the PVCC Committee before the end of October.

We hope you agree that village cricket can still be a central part of the Peasemore community and look forward to receiving your support

St Barnabas Church, Peasemore

Harvest Family Service followed by bring and share lunch.

Our family service will held at 11:00am to which everyone is most welcome.  If any children would like to help decorate the pew ends in the church for this special service please get in touch with Jenny Maskell.

Immediately following the service we plan to have a cold harvest lunch in the village hall.  Again, instead of selling tickets we thought it would be nice for everyone to bring something along for all to share as this worked really well last year.  If you would like to join us please call Jenny on 248540 and let her know what you plan to bring and how many of you there will be so that we can sure of seating everyone.  There will be drinks available at the hall and donations to the church would be much appreciated to help with the cost.

If you would like to make any donations of food, toiletries, second hand warm clothing, bedding (including sleeping bags) or towels please bring them along to the church (or call June Hateley on 248451) to arrange collection) and they will be taken to the homeless shelter behind the baptist church in Newbury.  Fresh produce would be welcome to decorate the church to celebrate the harvest and afterwards it will be cooked to feed those who come to Loose Ends as Nicky Sanderson is a volunteer there.

Late breaking news: As a late addition there will now be a Gun Dog Demonstration at 12:30 on Sunday on the cricket pitch by the judges of the dog-show

Join Parkinson’s UK on Sunday 9 April 2017 when we will be returning to Welford Park for our sponsored Walk for Parkinson’s. There will be two different circular walks available, a 2.5 mile walk and a more challenging 6.5 mile walk around the beautiful Welford Park estate, home of the Great British Bake Off. During the walk you will cross the River Lambourn, climb the hill to see the impressive cricket pitch whilst overlooking the historic Welford Park, explore the wonderful woodland before crossing the fields and taking in the lovely views of the surrounding countryside.

Entry fee is £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s and all walkers will receive a Parkinson’s UK t-shirt, plus a medal on completing the walk.

The funds raised from the Walk for Parkinson’s – Welford Park will go to Parkinson’s UK to support the vital research work taking place to find a cure for Parkinson’s and improve the lives of the 127,000 people in the UK who are affected by the condition. We support those living with Parkinson’s and their families and friends, so that no one has to face Parkinson’s alone.
